Bio

Ian is an accomplished Chief Information Security Officer with over 30 years’ experience in the field. He started off his career in South African Defence Force Combat School where he served as an Instructor in Army Intelligence. Ian took this background into the corporate world and was instrumental in the creation of the Global Security function for one of the Big 5 and subsequently was appointed as Chief Information Security Officer for one of South Africa’s leading Corporate and Merchant Banks.

Currently Ian is the CISO for SBV Services and reports directly to the CEO of the Group. Ian is passionate about building Information Security functions, creating order out of chaos and teaching people that security is not something to be feared but embraced.  In his private life he enjoys life outdoors either in the bush or scuba diving. He has 2 sons and his wife is an Program Executive in the financial services sector

I have been in the Information Security industry for 30 odd years. My career started in the South African Defence Force’s Combat School where I served as an Instructor in Army Intelligence. I took the skills and competencies acquired in the military and applied this into the corporate world. I was privileged to be a key role-player in the creation of the Global Security function for one of the global consulting firms and subsequently was appointed as ISO for ABSA Corporate and Merchant Bank and Group Chief Information Security Officer for a global medical and personal wellness firm.

Currently I am the CISO for SBV Services and reports directly to the CEO of the Group. My passion is building Information Security functions, creating order out of chaos and teaching people that security is not something to be feared but embraced.  In my private life I enjoy life outdoors either in the bush or scuba diving. My biggest brag is my wife who is an amazing professional and a force to be reckoned with. She is a Program Executive in the financial services sector and also pursuing her PhD in Digital Transformation in the Financial Services industry. We have 2 sons, one who is exploring life as a Scuba Instructor and the other one preparing to enter the world and find his own place in the sun.
